Things to Do in Winston-Salem
I’ve lived in Winston-Salem for over 20 years. It’s a small city with big city benefits in a small town southern environment.
In the early 2000’s, we knew we could find something fun to do if we went to 4th Street and Trade Street. We knew Finnegan’s was the last restaurant open after 10pm (they close at 11pm), and we would always end up at Single Brothers.
In the 2010’s, you knew of the events because you knew someone in the performance, the niche community, or the small business owner who was the host. Family-friendly events happened at Kaleideum, Greensboro Science Center, and your nearest library.
In the 2020s, I encountered people who had recently moved here with a fresh perspective. They asked, “How do you know what’s happening in Winston-Salem?” I would say, “Oh,orite places like Secca, Wiseman, Dose, Hispanic League, Black Philanthropy Initiative, Steven Tanger Center, UNCSA Theater….” As I continued to list my many favorite culture-creating communities of Winston-Salem, overwhelm washed over their faces.
